Interview with Gary Raisor

Gary Raisor, thank you for doing this interview. My one reader or readers depending on the day will not know you. A brief summary from your bio: Gary Raisor is an American horror author best known for the novels Less Than Human, Graven Images, Sinister Purposes, and his extensive short fiction work. His novels garnered reviews. He was nominated for a Bram Stoker Award for Best First Novel for Less Than Human in 1992. https://www.amazon.com/Gary-Raisor/s?k=Gary+Raisor https://www.imdb.com/name/nm4519732/

Mr. Raisor, everyone has that one story they wished everyone knew. What is that story for you?

Well, thinking over that ambiguous question, the answer is: THE NIGHT THEY MISSED THE HORROR SHOW by Joe Lansdale, hisownself. Or my story THE RIGHT THING which appears in my latest collection SINISTER PURPOSES. Or maybe it's something concerning my life? I don't really like to talk about myself, but I will part with this tidbit of info: I'm an alien and I like bowling. What's my average, you ask? Three beers a game, but I don't like to brag.

Mr. Raisor, as an author, actor, writer of horror stories, where do you come up with your story ideas?

They come from a seed catalog mailed from Idaho in a plain brown wrapper. The only problem--Stephen King always gets it first. He takes the best ideas before he forwards it on.

Mr. Raisor, I see you lived in Sunnyvale, California. Did you live close to Lockheed Martin, Yahoo, Google and have they influenced any of your stories?

That's all bullshit. I always return to the mothership which docks off Orion. They beam me back to earth just after breakfast. Which reminds me, I'm almost out of Cheerios. We aliens love that shit. And bowling. As an author what would you recommend authors or writers to do in writing their own stories? Stick to it. Even if you get rejected a hundred times. Always strive to make your next effort better than the one before.

What are you writing about now?

BAD BLOOD, the prequel to LESS THAN HUMAN.

What is your dream project or who you would like to work with?

I wrote a couple of movie scripts. One, STRAIGHT TO HELL, is with Edward Conna. He's a cool director who 'gets' the script's vibe. We're just trying to find the money to get it in front of the camera. The other script is LESS THAN HUMAN. Eric Red of THE HITCHER and NEAR DARK wants to direct. Again money is the hold-up.

What have you been reading? What is your favorite book or series?

Been working my way through some SHADOWS anthologies, edited by the great Charlie Grant. My favorite series is probably Joe Lansdale's Hap&Leonard. Just good, gritty crime thrillers with a touch of humor. Also very fond of HARRY POTTER.

What has made you happy in this life?

Writing and the love of my life, Kariann.

Mr. Raisor, are you going to do anymore movies?

Sure! I'd love to involved in some more silver-screen antics. All we need is that green stuff.

The classic question is what is your charity and please talk about it along with sharing a link to the charity.

I'm all about helping the critters. Dogs, cats, birds, etc. My suggestion is donate to your local animal shelters and animal re-habbers. They need money, and, unlike some so-called charities, the donations actually go to the animals.

What question do you wish I had asked? And what is the answer to that question?

What's the weather like just off Orion? The answer--it's sunny.
